Le Marqueval plays a simple hand: the comfort of a 4-star site, but in Hautot-sur-Mer, down in the valley, rather than on the Dieppe seafront. Pourville beach is still 1.2 km away, reachable on foot or by bike, and the centre of Dieppe about six kilometres. You keep access to the Alabaster Coast without paying front-row prices.
The grounds hold 289 pitches across 8.5 hectares of meadowland, 62 of them bare pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, with electrical hook-ups and water points. The others take Taos and O’Hara mobile homes, chalets facing the pond and four unusual options, from the gypsy caravan to the bamboo cabin. Three ponds, a mini farm and a playground occupy the middle of the site, all freely accessible.
ANCV holiday vouchers are accepted. The campsite is not VACAF-approved, however. The balance of the stay is due 30 days before arrival; arrivals are from 3 pm and departures before 10 am.
This is Le Marqueval’s economic argument: you do not need to take the car out to do the shopping. The grocery acts as the local shop, the bread service supplies baguettes and pastries in the morning, and the snack bar serves rotisserie, pizzas and burgers, to take away or eat in.
The bar, near the pools, also offers ice creams and ice cubes. Barbecues are allowed on the pitches, for those who would rather cook themselves.
The laundry has washing machines and tumble dryers. The sanitary blocks are presented as high-comfort and have access for guests with reduced mobility. Table tennis, playground and mini farm are freely available, and pets are accepted on the campsite.
On the campsite, the essentials cost nothing: playground, mini farm, table tennis table, and above all the three ponds open for fishing. Enough to keep children busy without an extra budget.
Outside, Pourville beach is 1.2 km away and the GR21, which follows the cliffs of the Alabaster Coast, passes nearby: free hiking with a view over the Channel. Dieppe, six kilometres away, is walkable, from the fishing harbour to the castle museum, and its Saturday market has a solid reputation.
